Hello GeoAlumni,
Please read the information below- AGI is gathering some important information on MS level education in the geosciences. The results of such surveys are important to both the larger profession, but are also very useful for the department- both as a means of evaluating what we do well and what we need to work on changing, but also as a vehicle to inform the administration of our program's value (and challenges). So, if you are a MS alumni, please take a few minutes to complete the survey.

Dear Professor Housen,

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) and Association of American Geographers (AAG) have funding from NSF (grant #1202707) to evaluate Master’s students’ preparedness to secure employment within the geosciences. We are looking for faculty, Master’s students and Master’s alumni from Geology at Western Washington University to participate in an online survey called the Geoscience Career Master's Preparation Survey (Geo Career MaPS:
www.americangeosciences.org/workforce/geo-career-maps). Through this study, we hope to elucidate what faculty are imparting on students and how well that relates to the skills and competencies alumni identify as imperative to their employment. The results of this survey, in conjunction with alumni and student responses, will address which of these skills and competencies are important to employability as well as what students are missing in that transition. AGI and AAG will use the information gathered through these surveys to develop free and open resources that departments and students can use for skills assessment, student advising and career planning.

If you have already taken part in this survey, we greatly appreciate your participation. There is no need for you to complete it a second time. If you’re willing to participate in the Geoscience Career Master's Preparation Survey please follow this link:

If you would simply like more information or know Master’s students or alumni that would like to participate, please contact the Principal Investigator, Heather Houlton, at hrh at agiweb.org or researcher, Jamie Ricci, at workforce2 at agiweb.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
