Thank you Jerry. I have heard since posting that Mark Beuhrer of 2020 Engineering has engaged an intern that he is willing to have work on my project for a few hours. I am not yet sure if that will be sufficient, so I will describe my needs:

I am a start-up company building a model home featuring hempcrete construction. This method of building has many energy saving and environmental quality advantages. Europeans have been employing these materials for over 30 years.

One challenge to the sustainability of this practice is that the lime binders used in hempcrete construction that have been proven to be successful come from Europe. Lime is available everywhere, but it varies in quality, set time, and other performance standards.

I have a technical reference on hemp/lime bioaggregate materials (Wiley), but I am not an engineer. I am looking for a student who will read this information, do some research, and some testing of various binder materials. I believe that hempcrete, being mold resistant, fireproof, insectproof, rodentproof, breathable, highly insulative, good thermal mass, acoustically absorbant, etc.....will catch on rapidly as a solution to the high carbon output of current building practices. At present the prohibition of industrial hemp (no psychoactive qualities) is illogical and destined to change very soon--as it has around the world.

I could pay $10/hr. I suspect that I will require 3-6hrs/wk for 6-12 weeks.

Alternately, a student might make a senior project or independent study of this project. I have emailed the Technology Department, but have not heard back. Any insights you may have on connecting me with a student (or faculty) who might be interested in this project would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Pam Bosch

Hello Pamela,

Thank you for your interest in recruiting at WWU. I am contacting you regarding your account request in our Viking CareerLink database. This database is limited to companies and organizations hiring for internships and jobs for students and alumni. I am not clear, based on your posting, what it is you are looking to recruit for.

Could you please tell me a little more so I can better understand?

Thanks,

Jenny
