How Big and How Frequent are Earthquakes on the Wasatch Fault in Utah? — Using Lidar, Paleoseismology, Rupture Modeling, and Tectonic Relief to Evaluate Earthquake Rupture Patterns

Scott is a Research Geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey (Seattle, WA). He is a field geologist who combines geologic mapping, structural geology, basin analysis, and geochronology to investigate the timing and rates of crustal deformation. Scott will share his recent Mendenhall postdoctoral research, which involved evaluating existing concepts of fault rupture segmentation for the Wasatch fault zone (Utah). He will discuss his analysis of airborne lidar, the results from several paleoseismic trenches, insights from rupture correlation modeling, and draw connections with new perspectives of the long-term patterns of tectonic exhumation.
