Salary: $52,700 - $65,800 (depending on experience)



Position Summary

The Instructional Designer I supports geoscience education through development of education materials and implementation of instructional technology across a broad range of academic programs and initiatives.

Details of Responsibilities

General Essential Job Duties:

● Create learning resources and related documentation as dictated by course design.

● Identify and develop appropriate instructional and technology solutions for teaching and learning.

● Collaborate with team members to assess instructional needs, establish timelines for project completion and identify desired outcomes.

● Assist with the development and delivery of training workshops (in person or virtual) including developing course materials.

● Provide support for projects related to learning technologies development.

● Other duties may be assigned as necessary for the successful operation of the business.


Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities:

● This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

● Interacts effectively and efficiently with EarthScope staff, community and partnering organizations.

● Foster a professional culture through the use of strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communications.

● Communicate clearly and effectively with other team members to ensure tasks are completed on time and with best practices.


Qualifications

Position Description

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

● Bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, instructional technology, or related field.


Preferred Skills:

• Bilingual; Spanish highly desired.

• Scientifically literate in geosciences

• Instructional experience in secondary classroom or higher education


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability for the position:

● Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with diverse members and different communication style.

● Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of this work and exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of workplace diversity with regard to culture, race, ethnicity, disability, and sexual orientation.

● Familiar with models of instructional design (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, Backward Design).

● Knowledge of geoscience, geodesy, geophysics, and/or geology.

● Flexibility and willingness to work as part of a team.

  *   Experience developing synchronous and/or asynchronous online instruction.


Assignment-specific Preferred Skills:

  *   Instructional experience teaching scientific computing, especially using notebooks


Other Requirements:

● Appropriate availability consistent with EarthScope established practices and norms; hours may exceed 40 hours per week, particularly when traveling.
