Hi Geofolk,

Leonard Sklar is a process geomorphologist who will be visiting us next week! See announcement in Hye In's email below. Those of you with fluvial knowledge may be familiar with his older work on the "saltation-abrasion" model for river channel evolution, which provides a framework for explaining both alluvial and bedrock rivers. Leonard's more recent work focuses on thinking about the grain sizes produced by landscapes.

I will also say that Leonard has been a model to me of a productive, collaborative researcher at a MS-granting institution — for much of his career, he was a professor at San Francisco State University. If you're interested in talking about your writing practice, I'm sure he'd love to share notes.

We have a few spots left to meet with Leonard, and a few spots to join for dinner. Let me know if you have questions!

Allison
