Perhaps you or someone you know is interested in an opportunity to work with the Michigan Geological Survey.
The Michigan Geological Survey, located in Kalamazoo, MI, is part of the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Western Michigan University. The survey focuses on geologic research to promote the wise use of natural resources and provides valuable expertise and historic data to the public.
Groundwater is a critical resource, and the survey's goal is to improve our understanding of the presence, quantity, and quality of groundwater across the state.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Research Associate Hydrogeologist at the Michigan Geological Survey focusing on groundwater resource identification, evaluation, and mapping. The role involves conducting field work, logging, design and performance of aquifer tests and evaluations, GIS, geological mapping, and drilling as part of daily tasks.
Qualifications
Field Work and Logging skills
Aquifer testing and data analyses
Understanding of groundwater movement in glaciated materials
Geological Mapping skills
Proficiency in Drilling techniques
Experience in GIS, data analysis and interpretation
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hydrogeology, geology or related field
Previous experience in hydrogeology research projects
Groundwater modeling experience a plus
