Dear Colleagues:

As you may know, the Office of Survey Research is about to launch its exit survey of undergraduates who are set to graduate this spring.  About 70% of graduates responded to last year's survey and it is our hope to increase this percentage this spring.  I'm hoping to enlist your help in making this happen.

OSR's initial contact strategy is through e-mail.  Relative to my name, yours is much more recognizable to students in your major.  My first request is for permission to use your name in an e-mail inviting students to participate in the survey.  I've copied proposed text of this invitation at the bottom of this e-mail.  If you object to your name being used, please let me know.

My second request is that you encourage graduating seniors who you encounter to complete the survey.  We ask general questions about the university and specific questions about your majors.  The more responses we receive, the better data we can provide you.  If you are unfamiliar with our exit survey, you may view last year's results at:  http://www.wwu.edu/osr/documents/UnderGrad2012-13Report_000.pdf  This year's survey does contain some differences and, if you like, I can get you a pdf draft copy of this year's survey.

Our hope is to launch the survey early next week.  If you have objections to your name being used, please let me know soon.

The Western Educational Longitudinal Study (WELS) is an ongoing effort of the Western's Office of Survey Research (OSR).  You may access the survey at:  {insert survey link}

Beginning in 2003, information collected through the WELS has led to improvements in Western's GURs, first year programs, advising, and accreditation process.  You may learn more about the WELS at: http://www.wwu.edu/socad/osr/
