I hope this email finds you all well!



I am writing today to ask for your help in advertising for a summer course on the Holocaust. The class will be the first of its kind at Western and it will only be offered during summer session (June 24- July 31, M-R 2:00-3:50). "Haunted Memories: Holocaust Representations in Austria, Germany, and the U.S" is a cross-listed course (German, History, International Studies). I am excited to teach this class in English - something that does not happen in the German section since all of our courses are taught in German!



Attached please find a poster for the course. Here is the course description:



In "Haunted Memories", students will explore how different generations of Austrians, Germans, and Americans have responded to the challenge of representing that which is seemingly unrepresentable - the Holocaust. We will draw on a variety of texts (autobiography, fiction, film, graphic novel, music, poetry) and spaces (museums, memorials) and investigate how artists from different generational, national, and religious backgrounds have responded to the Nazi genocide in their work. We will also discuss how these works have contributed to the shaping of collective (post)-memories in these countries, particularly since the growing "Americanization" of the Holocaust in the 1990s.
