Hancock Field Station Assistant Manager



The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is seeking a full-time Assistant Manager to live and work on site at our location in Fossil, Oregon at Hancock Field Station.  The Hancock Field Station Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the Hancock Field Station Manager in successfully running OMSI Outdoors programs, including but not limited to, Outdoor School, Summer Science Camp, Rental Groups, and Family Weekends.  This position is also responsible for coordinating and implementing programs, developing curriculum, supervision of summer camp counselors, and providing administrative support. Room and board are provided during days with programming; only room is provided during non-programming days.



The ideal candidate must have, but not limited to:
*     Thorough working knowledge of learning styles and instructional strategies, field program instruction, natural history, and working knowledge of current trends in outdoor science education.
*     Ability to self-initiate, self-motivate, and prioritize multiple tasks in order to meet deadlines.
*     Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to promote teamwork and collaboration.
*     Ability to communicate with and direct small and large groups including professional communication skills; both oral and written.
*     Ability to follow basic instructions.
*     Strong customer service skills.
*     Strong time management skills, including project management.
*     Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
*     Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
*     Demonstrated administrative skills, including ability to follow basic instructions on standardized forms.
*     Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
*     Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
*     Ability to work under pressure with flexibility.
*     Understanding of confidentiality and protocol.
*     Bachelor's Degree in natural science, education or environmental studies or equivalent combination of work experience and education.
*     Minimum 1 year leadership, supervisory, or management experience; Minimum 2 year working with youth in an outdoor setting; Minimum 1 year of program coordination and/or project management; Minimum 1 year of experience working with the public in formal and informal settings; Minimum 2 year of experience working in an outdoor residential educational setting.; Minimum 2 year of formal or informal experience in teaching science related topics
*     Oregon Food Handlers Card (training is available at employee's expense).
*     Current CPR for professional rescuer.
*     Current Lifeguard (training is available at employee's expense).
*     Current Wilderness First Responder (training is available at employee's expense).
*     Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License w/ air brake & passenger endorsement (training is available at employee's expense).
*     Oregon Small Water System Operator "S" License (Training can be provided with no fees associated).
*     Must pass all pre-employment checks, such as criminal background check, fingerprinting, reference checks, American Camp Association (ACA) background checks (& on annual basis), and requirements in the MVR Policy including passing a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and pre-employment drug test for the CDL Driver's Policy.

Previous non-profit/museum experience, ability to load and drive box- and flatbed trailers, and experience working with Next Generation Science Standards, is preferred.



Pay: $35,450 - $39,875 per year.
