Subject: Landslide geologist positions
Friends-
The DNR Division of Geology and Earth Resources (Washington Geological Survey) is hiring two landslide geologists! Please pass this email on to anyone you know who may be interested. It should be noted that the positions require a MS degree in geology or other closely related science, three years of experience in landslide hazard evaluations, and a geology license or sufficient experience and education to acquire a license within six months. For those lacking the required qualifications, we also plan to hire one or two entry level landslide geologist positions in the near future. Please call if there are any questions. Link and position profile description are below.
Cheers and thank you!
Stephen
Position profile:
The Division of Geology and Earth Resources (Washington Geological Survey) is seeking geologists with expertise in landslides and slope stability issues to be part of the new Landslide Hazards program. Working as part of a team and with guidance from the Landslide Hazards program manager, the primary duties of these positions is to identify and map landslides from lidar derivatives, orthoimagery, and field reconnaissance and to populate a landslide inventory for inclusion into a state-wide landslide inventory. Mapped landslides will then be incorporated and published in landslide susceptibility, hazard, and risk maps for use by local, state, and tribal governments, the public, and those interested in the landslide hazards of Washington. As part of the publication of these maps the geologist will assist with outreach and education for map users.
As a team member of the Landslide Hazards program, these positions will play an integral role in the direction of the program, including developing protocols for landslide mapping and geodatabase creation and support. We will develop our position as a leader in assessing landslide hazards for the state, as well as researching and publishing interesting landslide problems to advance the understanding of landslides and landslides hazards. Collaboration on research and projects with government agencies, academia, and private industry is encouraged. These positions will also assist in emergency response to geologic events and emergencies, including providing technical assistance and scientific consultation to local, state, and tribal governments on the interpretation and application of hazard assessments.
All team members will be expected to participate in and be a part of a team-based, information-sharing environment, collaborating and cooperating with others, while producing quality results to meet established goals. All members will demonstrate skills to effectively work as a team as well as work autonomously; recognize and respond appropriately to the ideas, interests, and concerns of others; build trust and engender morale by displaying open, transparent and credible behavior; and ensure others understanding of, involvement in, and adaptation to a change process.
