Dear Professor:

The NSF sponsored Lamont Summer intern program offers the chance for your undergraduates to participate in summer research. Our program is open to both rising sophomores and juniors. Many of the other NSF REU sites restrict their acceptances to juniors. We have 20 different specific research opportunities for students who are not local (not from Columbia University or Barnard College).
They are summarized in the attached brochure. Half of the students in the LDEO summer intern program and at other REU sites must come from small colleges or community colleges, defined as schools with no masters or PhD program in the students' major field of study. Please distribute the flyer and brochure to your students and urge them to apply by the application deadline of February 15th.
