Subject: Former Astronaut to speak this Friday
Hello,
Attached is a slide for the faculty in your department who are interested in advertising an upcoming event for the WWU club Out in Science. Former Astronaut Captain Wendy Lawrence will be speaking about her career at NASA in the VU 565 @ 5:30pm on Friday, October 7th.
If they are willing to advertise the additional pride week information below, we would be very thankful.
Monday October 3rd
Queer 101
5:30-7:30pm VU 565
An introduction to Queer terminology followed by an open discussion between professors and students about how to make the classroom a safer space for queer students to help them succeed in the classroom.
Tuesday October 4th:
Trans and Gender Non-conforming Social
7:00pm - 9:00pm VU 552
A safe space social mixer by and for trans and gender non-conforming students. The event will be run by the Gender Non-Conforming committee, formed specifically for this event. The event will include snacks, crafts and socializing. It is a intended as a relaxed fun event.
Wednesday October 5th:
Intersectionality Panel
5:30pm - 7:30 pm VU 462 A/B
A panel hosted by the Queer Intersectionality Committee, this panel will be led by Equal Rights Washington Head Chair Monisha Harrel to talk about intersectionality, what it is, her experience, and what we as a community can do about it.
Thursday October 6th:
Asexual and Aromantic 201
5:30 - 7:30 pm VU 552
An educational presentation on asexuality, and aromanticism. What it is, its spectrum, and any questions anyone might have about it.
Friday October 7th:
NASA Astronaut Wendy Lawrence Q&A
5:30 - 7:30 pm VU 565
Retired Astronaut Wendy Lawrence is coming to talk and take your questions about her experience at working for NASA, and how accepting or unaccepting the STEM fields can be.
Queer Open Mic Night
8:00 - 9:15pm
An open reading where queer writers can read their work to a live audience.
Saturday October 8th:
WWU Pride Festival
10:00 am - 4:00 pm PAC Plaza or MPR, depending on the weather:
The culmination of pride week! TThere will be tabling from local and on campus organizations, and clubs, carnival games, crafts, snacks, drinks, raffle and more!
