Hi geologists,

There is superb and amazing live video coming in from a remotely operated vehicle (ROV; robot sub) at West Mata volcano (Tonga Arc) right now. This is part of a cruise aboard the R/V Falkor, studying this volcano and sampling new eruption deposits. The live video is available via the Schmidt Ocean Institute's YouTubefeed at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1m5LdKP0m64n8nY3NhK6Zg, or on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SchmidtOcean/. Commentary is being provided by Ken Rubin of the U. of Hawai`i, and Bill Chadwick of NOAA/Oregon State University. You can also ask questions on both the YouTube and FB feeds-they're pretty good about responding. The cruise will be going on for a couple more weeks, I believe, with lots of ROV dives.

The video is really amazingly cool, so do yourselves a favor and check it out. Pop some popcorn first because you're going to be staring at this for a while. :)

Aloha,
Jackie
