Please check out these Job Announcemenst! Spring/Summer 2018 - Many of the Biological Technician Positions really are oriented to a person with a Geology background...I have been told by past students who have worked as a Biological Technician tell me that what you learned in Geomorphology is very relevant to these jobs. If you are looking to get experience a summer temp position is a great way to do that.
Applications will be accepted very early, from November 14-20! You can't apply yet, but starting on 11/14 and through 11/20, go to USA Jobs and search for the announcement numbers.
Students can shoot me an email if they have any questions, but I will say that I don't have much information at this early date (still finishing up the 2017 field season!), and hiring decisions won't be made until February to April 2018. I would encourage anyone who thinks they might want these jobs to apply!
When you do apply, make sure that you attach the most recent version of your transcripts (unofficial is fine unless the announcement says otherwise), and you read and follow the directions provided with the job announcement. They're picky!
The duty station is Ukiah, Oregon, which is a small mountain town in northeast Oregon, where the views are long, the rivers cold, and government housing is available! I think it's a great place to spend a summer, personally.

USAJobs Announcement Numbers (available November 14-20, 2017):
Biological Science Technician GS-4: 18-TEMP-R6-BSTNR-4DT-HL
Biological Science Technician GS-5: 18-TEMP-R6-BSTNR-5DT-HL
Of note, these announcements will be used to fill positions in hydrology, fish biology, wildlife biology, range management, botany, and soil science across the National Forests of Oregon and Washington. Students in their last couple of years usually qualify for GS-4 level jobs, and recent graduates usually qualify for GS-5 level jobs.
Thanks!
Richard
