Hi All- Another posting for an Internship...this was forwarded to me from the Career Center. I inquired if they would hire a "geologist" into this position and they would definitely look at your resume and skills. You definitely may have the skills they are looking for. I recall a previous alum that had obtained a position similar to this and the skills that she learned in Geomorph and GIS were a lot of the skills that she utilized in the field for the wetlands/biologist position she had.
Karla noted to me in an email,  "It should be noted, as we are not geologists, we rarely discuss the subject in-house and when we do, it is on a macro-historical time and circumstance scale."

Aqua-Terr Systems, Inc. (ATSI) is a Pacific Northwest based, environmental, biological, & land use consulting & management firm. We specialize in assisting clients to meet development project goals & design standards. Since 1988, we have assisted more than 1,500 clients on over 40,000 acres of public & private land through local, state, & federal permitting processes.

ATSI is seeking a Scientific Technician Intern to join our Whatcom/Skagit County team. Interns will provide support to biologists & will be involved in all aspects of our consulting firm, including field & office work.

Biologists duties & responsibilities, interns may assist with:

  *   Compile project-related research for estimate preparation, field work, technical document preparation

*        Conduct field work, including qualitative & quantitative (vegetation, soils, & hydrology) data collection, wetland delineations, OHWM determinations, habitat observations, mitigation monitoring

*        Compile data collected during field work

*        Prepare maps & figures utilizing AutoCAD LT

*        Prepare documents, including emails, letters, reports, mitigation plans, permits

*        Collaborate & participate in meetings

Minimum qualifications:

  *   Completion or enrollment in a biology, ecology, environmental science, or similar bachelors degree program
  *   Ability to work outside, in variable weather & understory conditions while traversing uneven terrain & carrying heavy equipment, for extended periods of time
  *   Transportation, car or truck preferred, for travel to/from field sites, offices, meeting locations
  *   Means to telecommute, including personal phone, computer with Word & Excel, WiFi, office space

Experience preferred, but not mandatory:

*        Relevant college coursework desired (Botany, Forest Ecology (Vegetation Monitoring), Soils, Wetland Delineation)

*        Prior industry experience desired

  *   Evidence of leadership skills, or interest in activities outside education

Skills:

  *   Office (Word, Excel)
  *   Design (AutoCAD, GIS)
  *   Botany (Local Plant Identification, Surveys)
  *   Wetlands (1987 Manual, 2010 Supplement, Wetland Rating System, Functional Assessments)
  *   OHWM (Ecology Guidance)
  *   Species & Habitat (ESA, EFH, Surveys)
  *   Mitigation (Ecology, Corps, & EPA Guidance, Credits/Debits, Mitigation Banks)
  *   Safety (Basic compass navigation, CPR, 1st Aid, WOFR)

Abilities, activities, or interests:

  *   Hiking/Camping/Backpacking
  *   Canoeing/Kayaking/Boating/Flying
  *   Scuba Diving/Snorkeling
  *   Habitat Restoration/Gardening/Citizen Science/Birding

Potential opportunities:

*        Industry relevant continuing education enrollment

Timeframe:

*        Spring, Summer, &/or Fall 2018
