If you are interested in attending this symposium please see below and check out the flyer.
Chairs and Deans and other Western, Whatcom Community College and Skagit Valley College leaders, please encourage faculty and students from across your campuses to join us on Friday, May 4 for one or more of the Symposium workshops.
If you/your colleagues and students would like to join us for lunch and the first workshop or the talk and reception at the end of the day, please RSVP to Shannon Warren (Shannon.warren at wwu.edu<mailto:Shannon.warren at wwu.edu>). That will help us with planning for food and beverages.
The workshop on Student Learning in Todays K-12 Classrooms is a great introduction to the Next Generation Science Standards, and the Common Core State Standards in Math... and will give all attendees (faculty, staff, and students) deeper insights into what our future Western, Whatcom, and Skagit Valley students will know and be able to do in STEM prior to matriculating at Western.
For faculty (and students) interested in aligning courses that are engaging students in inclusive, active learning practices with end of course assessments that support and provide useful feedback on these practices, the third workshop will be quite useful... and
If you/your department, college, or institution are interested in how to plan for, promote, and implement positive changes at the Programmatic, Departmental, College, and/or Institutional levels, Dr. Susan Elrod's early afternoon workshop will introduce you to a model for Systemic Change that we (SMATE and other institutions and departments across the country) have found to be quite useful.
