Hi All,
Here is a reminder of the Phase I Geology (JAPM) (JAPG) to Phase II (JA16 or JAII) process: If you have any questions regarding the below please come see me in person.

Remember you need to have completed the courses and received a grade in order to move on to Geology Phase II (JA16)

BS Preparatory courses:
Geol 211, Geol, 212, Geol 213, Math 124, Chem 121 and one of Geol 306 or 310, 318, 352

BS Geophysics Preparatory courses:
Geol 211, Geol 352, Math 124, Physics 161, 162

Here is another break down of the Phase I and Phase II Geology
Phase II Process:
Once you have completed the Phase I preparatory courses (after grades are received...which is Tuesday after the end of each quarter). I will work on moving students to phase II on Wednesday after grades are published.

Phase I courses are Geol, 211 or 101 and 211A or SCED 201 and 211A or the Honors Colloquium 212 and Geol 212 and Geol 213, and Math 124, and Chem 121 and one of the following courses: Geol, 306,310,318,352.
BS Geophysics Preparatory courses: Geol 211, Geol 352, Math 124, Physics 161, 162

You will receive an email from the Chair or myself indicating that we have moved you to Phase II. You will then need to let me know what 400 level courses that you want to take so that I can give you an OV for those courses. A new major declaration card is completed on your behalf and you are then moved to Phase II...PLEASE CHECK IN ABOUT TWO WEEKS after you receive this email that you have truly been moved to Phase II.
You should see a code at the bottom of your Academic History, "Internal Coding", that indicates that you are in the Major...JA16 or JA11.

If you do NOT see a JA16 or JA11 in the Internal Coding you will need to contact me immediately so that I can get that fixed. If this does not get fixed you will NOT be able to register for 400 level courses.

Students with a GPA of 2.5 or lower are admitted on a space-available basis. GPA is based only on courses that you have completed in Phase I. Options are given to move to a BA or wait to move to Phase II while working on increasing GPA in major courses.

This is really important to understand - until you receive an email saying that you have been moved to Geology Phase II - All upper division 400 level courses are restricted to you until this process is completed. Once you have received an email indicating that you have been moved to Phase II you may register for 400 level courses...You will need to request an override from me for the 400 level courses that you want to register for.

Please NOTE: Phase II of Registration: 400 level courses will be open to Geology Phase I students, Geology BA students and then Geology minors.
Phase III of Registration: all courses will be available to any student that meets the pre-requisite requirements.
