Kate von Krusenstiern here -- 2012 WWU Alumni (Geography/Geology/GIS). I am currently working in the Met-Ocean department at RPS Group -- a mid-sized environmental consulting firm. I am currently looking for an intern to join our team here in the Seattle office.

This is a paid, part-time internship based in our Seattle office as a Data Tech / Ocean Science Intern. The position is primarily QAQC of ocean data from a wide variety of sensors on ocean-going vessels. We process the data in MATLAB and while we don't expect new hires to be a wiz at programming, experience with MATLAB (or Python, or R) certainly helps, as does working with time-series observational data (marine-science related or not). Additionally, strong problem solving, attention to detail, and polished communication skills are expected.

If you have any recent or soon-to-be graduates from your department who are keen to gain professional experience in a consulting firm, please pass on this email. For the majority of our interns, this is their first gig outside of university courses. We are big on mentoring, increasing coding fluency, and promoting critical thinking. Many move on to pursue graduate studies (though a few have transitioned to permanent positions here at the company), and are thankful to have developed competent problem solving and programming skills to support their future endeavors. RPS itself is a larger, global consulting firm and applicants will need to go through the general process of hiring (resume and interview).
