[Geoldept] ASBOG Exam

Dear students and alumni:

Washington State and 31 other states require licensing to practice as a professional geologist.   The first step toward licensure is passing the ASBOG Fundamentals of Geology Exam.  The next Fundamentals of Geology Exam in Washington is October 4, 2019. The application deadline<https://www.dol.wa.gov/business/geologist/geoexams.html> for the exam is July 10, 2019.

Please take the exam if you meet the educational requirements (see the link below).  Preparing for the exam will be so much easier while you are still on campus because the subject matter will be fresh and we have study guides (REG Review) available in the department.

As it stands now, WWU is the leader in the country for people taking the Fundamentals Exam, so please help sustain our outstanding success.

Application procedures can be found in the link below (and are attached). Please read them carefully. If you are taking a course this spring that is part of the educational requirement, wait until your grade has been recorded before having the registrar mail a copy to the Geologist Licensing Board.

About 20% of the exam has content is related to engineering geology and hydrogeology. The content breakdown can be found here:

That said, you only have to pass (usually around 70%). There are 140 multiple choice questions. I would not spend an enormous amount of time trying to learn new material. Look over those content areas in the review guide to get a general understanding and place your attention on what you know best (i.e., classic geology).
