Subject: Message for CSE
Dear CSE Community;
I apologize for intruding on the end of your weekend, as I know that in recent days you have received a message from President Randhawa, and that faculty have received messages from Faculty Senate President Young and Provost Carbajal; I believe it is important to add my voice and some notions specific to the college as we prepare for the last two weeks of the Spring quarter.
It has been a quarter of unprecedented events and adjustments, and I most certainly commend you all for your time, talent, and resilience in continuing to provide opportunity for students during this time.
Now, it is important that I share with you all that many students, alumni, parents, and our student leadership have all reached out to me with stories and information regarding current CSE students and CSE colleagues who are now facing still more unprecedented situations that few of us can truly connect with, but with which we must play a role. We all certainly know that the ongoing epidemic has disproportionately affected students of color and their families, and that the recent escalation of tragic events has added significantly to that disparity and to the distress and anxiety, particularly for our black students. Given the personal messages I have heard, I ask you all to keep the pure magnitude of, and the whole of, the current circumstance in mind as we approach the end of the quarter, and to please exercise flexibility in helping to support our most vulnerable students during this time. I also ask that we work together, to communicate with one another and care for one another, in order to share and provide as robust a set of channels for information and solutions as we can. We will keep the conversation going this week!
With my best--Brad
