Dear Geology Community,

Thank you to those who participated in yesterday's Community discussion as part of the Strike4BlackLives. It was a rich discussion and we compiled a number of ideas for concrete actions the Geology Department can take. I have shared my meeting notes for anyone to view here<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YegJIFoDN0iD4pz45SwivrnhILuq_5jKNx6-KYmCeQc/edit?usp=sharing>.

If you have other thoughts, actions, or ideas to share with the Geology Department, please send those to me and I will add them to the google doc linked above.

Here, I'll just call your attention to a couple of the most immediate action items you can take:

  * There is an event<https://win.wwu.edu/event/5900376> this Sunday, June 14 hosted by BSU looking at how to address anti-Blackness at WWU. We are all encouraged to go and listen to Black members of the WWU community. Register here<https://tinyurl.com/bbmsworkshop> by June 12 to receive the Zoom link
  * Please read the Call to Action for an Anti-Racist Science Community from Geoscientists of Color<https://notimeforsilence.org/> and consider signing it. Faculty: let's consider submitting an Organizational Endorsement as a follow-up action during Academics for Black Survival and Wellness Week<https://www.academics4blacklives.com/>, which lasts from Juneteenth<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juneteenth> (June 19th) through June 25th
  * Faculty: consider donating to CSE's Supporting Black Students in STEM<https://foundation.wwu.edu/BlackStudentsInSTEM> fund. Students: share the link with your networks!

Thanks,
Melissa
Geology Faculty Community Ambassador
