Happy Friday, geology students!
I am writing to alert you to two very good scholarship opportunities, for which the criteria are pretty specific, so you will need to have a look, and determine if you are eligible. Both of these scholarships are awarded by the College of Science and Engineering, for anytime in the next academic year (so, you need to be a student for Fall 21, or beyond). Here is the info:
The Olsen Scholarship: $6000. You must be an undergraduate student who is the child (adopted or biological) of, and who lived at some point during your first 18 years of life with, a single, divorced, or widowed parent. The award will be evaluated on both financial need, and academic merit.
The Van Nostrand Scholarship: $10,000. You must be an undergraduate student who is a single/custodial parent with a dependent child, and have financial need.
If you are eligible for either (or both) of these scholarships, please contact me (bernieh at wwu.edu<mailto:bernieh at wwu.edu>) and I can help you get the application/nomination prepared and submitted. The Olsen Scholarship’s deadline is coming up (April 30), and the Van Nostrand is more flexible. Because the eligibility is so specific, and because it is not possible for us to know who among you may be eligible, we often do not have many applicants for these- so this is a very good opportunity, if you are eligible. If you have questions, please feel free to ask.
