While you are enjoying Finals Week, and hopefully have not been too flummoxed by the Canvas debacle yesterday, here is an opportunity for your consideration. The message forwarded below is from the UW-Seattle Geotechnical Engineering program- so on the Civil Engineering side of the Geology-Engineering Geology-Civil Engineer spectrum. They have a nice MS program, and from this communication, they have more support (TA positions, etc) than they have students to offer it to- so this should be an opportunity to explore if you are interested in the more engineering side of geosciences.

Dear Colleague,

Attached are two informational documents that may be of interest to students seeking an M.S. degree in geotechnical engineering, and which describe the program at the University of Washington. While a majority of geotechnical engineers come from civil engineering backgrounds, we routinely have very successful MS students with undergraduate degrees in geological science, geological engineering, and related fields. Accordingly, I wanted to reach out to colleagues in earth science, and by corollary to students in earth science, who might otherwise not be aware of opportunities in geotechnical engineering.

Two salient points are: (1) we've been offering a "fast-track" MS degree that can be completed in 9 months by motivated full-time students, in addition to more conventional degree timelines; and (2) we have a surplus of teaching assistant, research assistant, and fellowship positions to award for Fall 2022. While UW has a posted application deadline of Dec 15, we will not begin reviews until Jan 2 2022, at which time all applications will be considered equally.
