Hi Dylan,

Thanks for your email. I encourage you to apply, and to contact Robin directly (via her email in the message below). The link has never worked for me so my sense was that it hasn’t officially been posted. You have a sting experience base so just write to Robin!

Doug

Hey Doug,
I am extremely interested in this position but could not get the link to work and assume this means they have already reached the 150 applicant cap. I have fairly extensive mountaineering experience (glacier travel, lead alpine ice, a decade of rock climbing experience, done field research at elevations > 20k feet, thru hiked the pct, WFR) and just finished a year long post-bac certificate in GIS. If there’s any way they would accept another applicant I would be very grateful for the opportunity. If you hear of any other postings detailing a similar skill set I would much appreciate the referral.
Best,
Dylan

Students, if any of you have a hankering to spend the summer studying glaciers and caves in Wyoming’s gorgeous Wind River Range, here’s a fantastic paid(!) summer GeoCorp internship with the USFS working with a recent WWU Geo graduate!

The position has some fairly hefty requirements for mountaineering experience, but check it out!

Hi Doug,

This is Robin Thomas, I was a WWU geology graduate in 2017.

I now work on Bridger-Teton National Forest for the geology program. One of my main duties is managing the glacier monitoring program for the forest.

We are hoping to bring on a paid GeoCorps intern for summer 2022 and I was wondering if you knew anyone who might be interested and who might be a good fit

The position should be posted to the GeoCorps website early December, and is limited to the first 150 applicants.
https://www.geosociety.org/.../fieldexp/GeoCorps/home.aspx<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.geosociety.org%2F...%2Ffieldexp%2FGeoCorps%2Fhome.aspx&data=04%7C01%7Cdhclark%40wwu.edu%7C4a790997e31a47e110c208d9bcd78481%7Cdc46140ce26f43efb0ae00f257f478ff%7C0%7C0%7C637748456100826177%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=jfH1NjSu%2FJ77qTuy1GZVqEAN2Iok3h0axivKQh148P0%3D&reserved=0>

Thanks!

Robin

Duties will include: looking for new caves by ground truthing karst points identified via remote sensing, cave survey, drafting cave maps, updating geodatabases, glacier geodetic survey and data processing, repeat glacier photography, glacial streamflow measurement. Expect 50/50 field and office work.

Requirements:
-Demonstrated experience with highly strenuous, off-trail, multi-day backcountry travel (Be prepared to give us some stats. How many miles? How much vertical? How heavy was the pack?)

Other beneficial skills and experience:
-GIS (especially ArcGIS)
