[Geoldept] FW: Vote in AS Elections by Jan 29, Friday, 4pm

Hi everyone!

This is your AS Senate Pro Tempore (Chair of the Student Senate), Sargun Handa, and I'm here to ask you to please take 2 minutes to vote in AS elections by Friday 4 pm.

In these elections, I have a proposal to move Student Senate elections from the fall to the spring. Currently, the Student Senators work from November to June, leaving 5 whole months without student representation until the next election in the following November. Moving their terms from Spring to the next Spring would ensure your voices are heard all year long, without any absence of a Student Senate! WWU admin made multiple decisions this Summer without student input and will continue to do so if we don't have students present to keep them accountable. Your voice matters. Representation matters.

The current AS Student Senate and AS Executive Board voted unanimously for this proposal to be on the ballot and are in full support of it! You can vote here: win.wwu.edu

In addition, while this will increase the cost of the Student Senate, it will not increase fees that you pay. This is because of something called reserves (our rainy-day balance that we had been saving up for in case anything happened, such as the pandemic). The AS Finance Council and Business Director also support the proposal as their priority, and they have confirmed that we have enough money for this without any additional cost to you.
