Hello Geofolks!
Find below an email forwarded from CSE regarding the upcoming free screening of the documentary film, Picture a Scientist. The screening will be asynchronous and you will be able to watch it at any point from March 9th to the 11th. The link will be available for all WWU students, staff, and faculty, so feel free to share this opportunity with others!
In addition to the screening, the Geology department will be hosting an informal discussion for anyone interested. This will occur next week during our GLT time slot (since the normal GLT is canceled because of the timing of dead week).
The link for the film screening is not yet available, but you will be able to find it here when it is live: https://cse.wwu.edu/upcoming-stem-equity-inclusion-and-diversity-events
Here is the Zoom information for the Geo discussion:

Hello CSE,
We want to invite you to a free screening of Picture a Scientist from March 9 - 11. The screening will be asynchronous and will be able to be watched at any point from the ninth to the eleventh. The link will be available for all WWU students, staff, and faculty, so feel free to share this opportunity with others!
PICTURE A SCIENTIST is a feature-length documentary film chronicling the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. A biologist, a chemist and a geologist lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, overcoming brutal harassment, institutional discrimination, and years of subtle slights to revolutionize the culture of science. From cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we also encounter scientific luminaries who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.
Many people within the college have expressed interest in screening this film and having a discussion around the important topics it covers and the implications it has for our college. We feel these discussions are best served in a smaller, department-level discussion before we attempt to host a larger conversation with the college. We encourage faculty/staff and for any CSE-affiliated clubs to plan a time to debrief about the video after the event. Our goal is to be able to bring this conversation to the college on a larger scale in the future.
There is a discussion guide attached to this email if you are interested in utilizing this in your discussions.
Please reach out with any questions you may have. We will be sending an email closer to the event with the access link.
Best,
Mikayla King
Communication Consultant
