NSF Seeks Science Assistant for Marine Geosciences Section
Position Announcement: Marine Geosciences Section, Science Assistant
National Science Foundation (NSF), Alexandria, VA

Dear Colleagues:

The Marine Geosciences Section, composed of the Chemical Oceanography (CO) and Marine Geology and Geophysics (MGG) Programs, is looking to hire a Science Assistant. The Science Assistant will work with the CO and MGG Program Officers, as well as others in the Division of Ocean Sciences, providing service of value to the Programs while simultaneously developing an understanding of key aspects of the science and engineering enterprise that will be valuable to a future professional career in science or government. Science Assistants help to manage the Program’s merit review process including panels and award oversight activities. They also participate in other Program activities including report preparation, data management & data analysis, working with other parts of NSF and other government agencies, and exchanging information with the scientific research community. Opportunities for training and career development are also available.

Please pass the word along to students or others who might be interested. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in marine geosciences or marine biogeochemistry. Backgrounds in other fields of ocean sciences, environmental chemistry, or earth sciences will also be considered. Strong written and oral communications skills and strong organizational abilities are essential. The preferred start date is January 2023, and the position will be for a maximum duration of two years.
