The U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Science Center is seeking two Physical Scientists to join the ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) system’s Communication, Education, Outreach, and Technical Engagement (CEO&TE) Team.



The ShakeAlert EEW system is a mission-critical, distributed system that rapidly detects earthquakes and generates ShakeAlert Messages so that distribution partners can develop and deliver alerts to the public and/or trigger automated systems. The ShakeAlert system operates in California, Oregon, and Washington and serves over 50 million people. These positions are located at USGS Earthquake Science Center offices in Mountain View, CA and Seattle, WA and will report to staff in Pasadena, CA. The USGS CEO&TE team coordinates all ShakeAlert CEO&TE activities across the West Coast and provides real-time communications support in the event of an earthquake or other event involving ShakeAlert EEW. Applicants who have experience in public outreach programs and/or classroom teaching specifically in a STEM learning environment such as a school, museum, or park visitor center are encouraged to apply.



Appointments are Permanent, Full-Time



These positions are with the USGS, Earthquake Science Center. One position is based in Mountain View, CA and the other in Seattle,WA. Limited telework may be available after a probationary period.

*U.S. Citizenship is required.*

Valid driver’s license is required.



Salary Range: $92,123.00 to $133,236.00 / Per Year
