The best geophysics internship ever is back, but with a different name!! If you've heard me talk about the IRIS internships in the past, here it is under its new name (URISE). These paid seismology internships are a terrific opportunity for undergraduate students interested in geophysics. You need not have had any experience in seismology or geophysics, so if you think this is something you'd like to try, go for it! You do need to have taken math and physics, and programming experience is a plus (MATLAB, Python, etc). Interns spend 8-10 weeks working with seismologists across the country, and they present their research at the fall meeting of the American Geophysical Society.

Note that you must have at least one quarter left in school after the summer (you can't have graduated in spring).

check it out below!

[You don't often get email from justin.sweet at earthscope.org. Learn why this is important at https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification ]

Applications are currently being accepted for the recently re-named Undergraduate Research Internships in Seismology (URISE) - Summer 2023! URISE takes the place of the long-running IRIS REU Internship Program.

Please support this program by announcing it to your students and/or applying to become a mentor!

URISE interns spend 8 to 10 weeks applying their math, physics, and geoscience knowledge to explore Earth processes and its interior. Research projects may involve the deployment of seismic instruments in the field (within the US or internationally), and/or analyses of seismic data in a lab setting with the ultimate goal of producing results to be presented at a national scientific meeting. Interns receive a weekly stipend, support for travel and housing, and full funding to attend the Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union. See intern projects from 2022 to gain a sense of the possibilities. https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.iris.edu%2Fhq%2Finternship%2Fnews%2F2022_iris_interns_at_the_fall_agu_meeting&data=05%7C01%7Ccaplanj%40wwu.edu%7C6475f30d8871417ee9fd08daef6e8ee6%7Cdc46140ce26f43efb0ae00f257f478ff%7C0%7C0%7C638085555379726425%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C7000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=o3x6IaNXGTUHZ%2F2Xw3BhrQRcXvoZ%2F5Q4FpQIfhGsqQ8%3D&reserved=0

We are excited to receive applications from students representing the full spectrum of society, as well as students with lived experiences such as students with disabilities, veterans, and non-traditional students!
