This is a wonderful opportunity! The USGS Earthquake Science Center has offices in Seattle, the Bay Area, and Pasadena. Several WWU students (including myself) completed internships with them last summer. Let’s keep the WWU - USGS pipeline going! Please reach out if you have any questions.

Hello GeoStudents,
Happy Monday- and here is a really excellent opportunity for paid internships, good for either those with an undergraduate or graduate degree. Please note there is a Zoom session with them coming up (Feb 2) where you can learn more about these positions, and the application process.

You don't often get email from sdelong at usgs.gov<mailto:sdelong at usgs.gov>. Learn why this is important<https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
Hello!

I am a geologist at the U.S. Geological Survey’s Earthquake Science Center in Moffett Field, Mountain View (formerly Menlo Park). We may have been in contact last year regarding our Summer Student Internship program. It was wildly successful, and we are at it again!

Would you be able to send the attached announcement around to your students and colleagues ASAP? We are targeting students early in their college career at colleges and universities near USGS offices to introduce more students to geosciences and the USGS. We are interested in hiring students from 2-year, 4-year, and graduate programs into the USGS. In the last two years we have hired over 30 students vis this program, some of whom are still working with us in longer-term positions.

Attached is a flyer with details about the recruitment event, and the internship program. We are holding a Zoom info session Thursday February 2, 2023 at 7 pm Pacific and the application will open Sunday February 5, 2023 at 9 pm Pacific and close when we received the maximum number of applicants, likely within a day or two. All positions are fully paid according to the federal pay scale. (Just to note, the students do have to be U.S. Citizens). Also, if there is someone in your department or school that might be a better contact in the future, please let us know! We will update our database of connections. We are interested in connecting with student groups, veterans' groups, and to reach students outside of geology programs as well in hopes of attracting a diverse applicant pool - many positions are not focused on geology; we have geophysics, computer science, and other interesting project ideas. Some do not require any specific experience.

Any questions can be directed to me or to esc_internships at usgs.gov<mailto:esc_internships at usgs.gov>

Cheers and many thanks,
Steve DeLong
