Subject: [Geoldept] Meet-and-greet with Dr Robert Hazen Tuesday 1-2pm
Dear students,
On Tuesday, May 2nd, the department is hosting a distinguished mineralogist and astrobiologist, Dr Robert Hazen from the Carnegie Institution for Science and George Mason University.
We would like to invite you to an informal meet-and-greet with Dr. Hazen in the Bressler room from 1-2pm. We will have fruit, cheese and light snacks for your enjoyment. Come meet one of the top scientists in the field of astrobiology!
Dr. Hazen studies how life and minerals co-evolve on earth. He has authored more than 450 articles and 25 books on science, history, and music. Yes, music! He was a professional trumpet player for 40 years while building a productive scientific career at the same time. And... the mineral hazenite (KNaMg2(PO4)2 * 14H2O) was named in his honor. Come ask him how he managed to do all that!
Recently, one of his last books 'Symphony in C' inspired an orchestra to write a symphony on carbon:

The seminar will be followed by a reception in SMATE library with yummy snacks and beverages. More details are in the attached flyer.
