Hi Geostudents!

Did you know that Western offers a Materials Science minor, and that Geology actually has the most courses that count as electives for that minor?

But wait, what's Materials Science?
Materials Science is an interdisciplinary field that intersects the natural sciences and engineering to study solid materials.

How does that relate to Geoscience?
Many geologists are material scientists of natural materials!

What's the benefit of the Materials Science minor?
Many minor students have been successful in getting industry job immediately post-graduation.

What does the minor mean in terms of class load?
4 core classes + 3 electives, and you can pick from any of the following GEOL classes:
GEOL 306 - Mineralogy
GEOL 314 - Engineering Geology
GEOL 318 - Structural Geology
GEOL 352 - Introduction to Geophysics
GEOL 425 - Advanced Metamorphic Petrology
GEOL 452 - Applied Geophysics
GEOL 454 - Magnetic Fabrics & Geo. Process.
GEOL 457 - Practical Paleomagnetism
GEOL 460 - ICP-MS Theory & Appl. in Earth Sci.
GEOL 461 - Geochemistry
GEOL 465 - Remote Sensing of Earth and Planetary Surface

Check out the attached flyer for more information. Feel free to shoot me an email if you have additional questions or want to chat about the minor!
