GIA Laboratory – Staff Gemologist Position in Identification Department
The Identification Department at the GIA Laboratory in New York invites applications for staff gemologist position. The laboratory seeks individuals to perform routine gemological work and advanced spectroscopy testing in support of colored-diamond identification services. The successful candidates will work together with other gemologists and researchers by working as a team on the analysis, identification, and investigation of gem materials, focusing mainly on colored diamonds. This person will be expected to contribute to data collection and interpretation by independently operating various analytical instruments, including infrared spectrometer, fluorescence spectrometer, UV-Visible spectrometer, Raman spectrometer and other analytical equipment.
A B.S. or M.S. in geology, physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field is required. A background in mineralogy or earth sciences is preferred.
