[Geoldept] Turbidity Currents!

Hi all!
Last Friday I gave a brownbag talk where we played with turbidity currents and a few attendees wanted to run some turbidity currents but did not get a chance to do so. To rectify this problem I set up the large turbidity current tank in ES 218 so anyone can run turbidity currents at any time (when there isn't a class in there!). There is a bucket of sediment, a scoop, a stir bar, and a weir so everything is available. Feel free to run as many as you want! If you do not know how, feel free to grab me or ask anyone in 415 to show you how to do it. It is really fun!
At the end of the term I will drain the tank and core the sediment in the basin, and use it as an example of basin fill geometry in marine settings. So not only will running turbidity currents be fun, but it will help teach those in strat/sed! So if you get a chance, please run a turbidity current or two! Thanks!

                                                                  Tom
