The Oregon Water Science Center has an opening for a groundwater hydrologist in Portland. The position is for a hydrologist, who will assist and/or lead groundwater availability and quality studies. The Oregon Water Science Center is a group of about 100 scientists, technicians, and support staff conducting a wide range of physical hydrology, water quality, biology, and ecosystems science in a collegial and supportive work environment. Our groundwater program is growing with new projects dealing with interesting, complex groundwater management issues throughout Oregon.
Portland is a vibrant city at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. From Portland, stunning cliffs and beaches along the Pacific Ocean, glaciers on Mt. Hood (elevation 11,240 ft), and the Columbia River gorge are approximately an hour drive away. The high desert of central Oregon is an easy drive east of the Cascade Range. These areas provide outdoor enthusiasts great opportunities for hiking, rafting, kayaking, windsurfing/kite boarding, skiing (even in summer), mountain biking, hunting and fishing. In the Portland area, an eclectic arts, theater, music, and food scene provides unlimited opportunities to enjoy this bike-friendly city.

Here are a few reminders to pass along to any interested applicants so they don't inadvertently disqualify themselves from further consideration:

* They must submit ALL copies of their unofficial transcripts. This is really important when they have attended multiple schools. Their current school doesn't always list the transfer classes. The transcripts are needed to confirm that they have completed the required coursework for the basic education requirement. The copies should be current, it should list a degree conferred date on there. These DO NOT have to be official copies, they can be printed out from the school's site.

* If they have completed their degree requirements, but their transcripts have not yet been updated, applicants may submit a letter from the school indicating that they have completed their degree requirements along with a copy of their most recent unofficial transcripts.

* Resumes should also include a month and year, along with their relevant work experience underneath each period of employment. Their resumes should contain enough details regarding their work experience for us to determine whether they have the specialized experience or not.

* If they have current or prior federal service, they should list the grade levels. If this is left out, it won't necessarily get them rated out, but it may help them get rated in easier.

* They MUST submit ALL required documentation prior to the close of the announcement. All documents must be legible! They can always e-mail the contact person in the vacancy announcement to confirm that their documents all uploaded correctly. Sometimes the documents submitted are blurry and really hard to read.

Please share with others.
