Dear friends and colleagues,

We are now accepting applications for the 2017 Bushveld - AfricaArray REU. The program dates for this summer will be May 25 - July 23, with July 1-23 being spent in South Africa at sites in and around the Bushveld Igneous Complex. This is really an amazing program so please encourage your very best undergrads to apply! In a typical year we accept 4 geochemistry and 4 geophysics students. The geochemistry students will be trained in rock sample preparation, trace element analysis, and/or isotope ratio analysis, while the geophysics students will be trained to install and service seismic stations and carry out basic receiver function modeling. We strongly encourage minority applicants; in a typical year ~50-75% of our participants are from under-represented groups. Curiosity and adaptability are the most important requirements. Please feel free to post the attached flyer in your department, announce the program in your classes, and/or forward the application to students you think would be a good fit for the program. Applications are due February 1, 2017. All travel costs are covered including room and board, plus the students receive a $450/week stipend. Students are responsible for getting their own passports and immunizations. Let me know if you have any questions, and feel free to give my email address to students so they can contact me directly.
