Hi everyone, I'm teaching a new class this Winter that may be of interest to Geology/Geophysics majors and grad students: Astronomy 497 - Topics in Planetary Science. See attached flyer for more details.
This seminar will cover several of the major discoveries in planetary science from the past century (the first exoplanet, the cause of the K-T extinction, volcanoes on Io, etc.). We'll read and discuss the "classic" papers from the geology, geophysics and astronomy literature that detailed these discoveries for the first time.
The prereqs listed are PHYS 363 and ASTR 315 or GEOL 445 - but I will welcome students who don't have all of the prereqs if they contact me for an override: melissa.rice at wwu.edu
(And Geophysics majors: this can be added to the list of "choose five of these" electives for your degree requirements)
Please spread the word - thanks!
Melissa
