Hi everyone! Please see the message below, and submit the attached form to Paula Guenther by November 22nd if you are interested.
***
The Umatilla National Forest in Ukiah, OR is conducting outreach ahead of an upcoming job announcement for a Geologist and Minerals Administrator. In addition to the information in the attached document, I would like to add that this is an excellent and uncommon opportunity for someone with a Master's degree or a few years of experience and an interest in minerals and mining to gain experience working on complex issues with a great team of professionals in a beautiful location! Minerals issues on the Forest include ongoing small mining and legacy impacts from historic and abandoned placer and lode mining.
Most of this position's time is likely to be spent on managing these mines and claims, and working with miners. However, there is a lot of opportunity to have an impact on other projects as well, from improving our saleable minerals (e.g. gravel) program, to providing slope stability input for environmental analysis, to assisting with stream restoration projects in locations that have been extensively dredged. Useable skills span hard rock and economic geology, geomorphology, and hydrogeology.
There is an interest form for you to complete that will help determine how to proceed with hiring (e.g. if no one from outside the government is interested, the position would be less likely to be available for anyone from outside the government to apply); please do so by November 22. Eventually, the position will be posted and accepting applications to USAJobs, the federal government hiring portal.
If you have any questions, please contact Paula Guenther, District Ranger (info in the attached). I may also be able to help answer questions (I am usually the South Zone Hydrologist in Ukiah and work closely with this position).
Thank you,
Richard
