Hi Bernard,
The U.S. Geological Survey's Earthquake Science Center is continuing a summer internship program that started last year and I'm wondering if you might be able to send the announcement around to your students and colleagues ASAP? We are targeting students early in their college career at colleges and universities near USGS offices and remotely to introduce more students to geosciences and the USGS. We are interested in hiring students from 2-year, 4-year, and graduate programs into the USGS. Last year we hired 19 students, some of whom are still working with us in longer-term positions. Attached is a flyer with details about the recruitment event, and the internship program. We are holding an info session this Thursday February 10 at 7 pm Pacific and the application will open Sunday February 13 and likely close when we received the maximum number of applicants within a day or two. All position are fully paid according to the federal pay scale.
Also, if there is someone in your institution that might be a better contact in the future, please let us know! We are also trying to establish a database of connections. We are interested in connecting with student groups, veterans' groups, and to reach students outside of geology programs as well in hopes of attracting a diverse applicant pool - many positions are not focused on geology; we have geophysics, education, computer science, graphic design, and other interesting project ideas.
