Hello GeoPeople,
If you are interested in starting a good PhD program in Germany, please see the info below, and attached. They are particularly interested in students who have some knowledge of the Columbia Plateau and Yellowstone area, and interests + experience in mapping, sedimentology, paleomagnetism, and magnetic anisotropy. If that sounds interesting, check out the details, and contact Stu Gilder for more details.

You don't often get email from gilder at geophysik.uni-muenchen.de. Learn why this is important<http://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
Dear Bernie,
I imagine you saw this. If you have any promising students please send them our way.
It would be nice to have someone who is familiar with the geology of the Columbia River - Yellowstone area.
Best wishes, Stu

Dear Colleagues,

The German Science Foundation (DFG) has recently funded the PhD Graduate School, UPLIFT, dedicated to better understanding dynamic topography. UPLIFT will formally begin in April 2022 and runs as a joint program between the Technical University of Munich and Ludwig-Maximilians-University. There are 10 PhD positions open for a wide range of topics, mostly geophysics-related. We seek two PhD candidates to carry out field-based studies in western North America as a part of UPLIFT. One candidate will be responsible for geologic aspects (mapping, sedimentology, etc.) and the other for paleomagnetic aspects (magnetostratigraphy, anisotropy, etc.); both positions come with full salary and integration in the UPLIFT consortium for three-years. Contact Anke Friedrich (friedrich at lmu.de<mailto:friedrich at lmu.de>) (responsible for geology) or Stuart Gilder (gilder at lmu.de<mailto:gilder at lmu.de>) (responsible for paleomagnetism) for further information. A more detailed description of UPLIFT can be found in the attached pdf file.

Best wishes,

Stuart Gilder
